JFA’s vision is to provide a safe, fun form of physical activity for children that includes skill development & promotes participation in rugby league, touch footy & touch rugby league.

Junior Footy Academy (JFA) is a business operated by Walson Carlos (pictured right) that focuses on introducing kids of all ages to footy in a safe and fun environment. A former Queensland Cup level rugby league player, Walson has held coaching, development and management roles in the rugby league industry for the last 17 years including prominent roles with the CQ NRL Bid, CQ Capras and the Queensland Rugby League.

JFA provides after-school, holiday and club-based clinics for children aged as young as 2-years old all the way through to 18 years of age. Services range from introductory coaching to ignite the little kids passion and develop their skills for rugby league and TRL all the way up to elite training services for the aspiring NRL player.


JFA commenced operation in November of 2014 and in 12 months has achieved the following:

– 1729 juniors from across Central Queensland have participated in JFA programs and clinics. Projected growth to 2500+ in 2016.

–  JFA has a strong CQ footprint successfully delivering programs and clinics in Rockhampton, Gladstone, Yeppoon, Biloela, Moura, Emerald, Springsure, Longreach, Barcaldine, Ilfracombe, Clermont and Gayndah. This footprint is set to widen in 2016 with clinics planned for southern areas like Bundaberg and northern areas like Sarina and Mackay.

– 414 JFA-branded footballs and 374 JFA-branded shirts have been distributed to juniors.
